I’m Brian Innes, and I want to be your next councillor for Kitchissippi
I am running because we deserve a councillor who will make development work for the people that live here.
We love living in Kitchissippi and I want to make sure that development works for us. Right now, growth is putting real pressure on our daily life. Roads are more congested. Transit is unreliable. Parks and recreation are not keeping up. We’re asked to accept more density without seeing the services and infrastructure that should come with it.
I get excited about bringing people together to find solutions. I’m rooted in our community and have worked to make Kitchissippi a fantastic place to live, work and play. I’ve also seen our frustrations up close: chaotic development, traffic, transit, recreation and public safety.
Many of Kitchissippi’s biggest challenges cannot be solved by our councillor alone. Transit, traffic, recreation, housing, public safety, and infrastructure require a councillor who can work with others around the council table, with staff, with the mayor and with provincial and federal partners when needed. My experience working alongside municipal, provincial, national and international governments has taught me how to bring people to the table, keep them focussed and push for results residents can actually see. As a leader of non-profit associations, I’ve helped small, medium and multinational businesses come together under a common purpose and get results. And as a board chair and board member, I’ve led diverse people to a common goal while ensuring accountability.
I’ve lived and seen the pressures we’re facing through community service. From leading the Hintonburg Community Association to serving as a race coordinator, leader of a food security organization, ski coach and by helping the most vulnerable. Community service runs deep in our family from my dad raising money for a ball diamond to my mom advocating for women and families. I now also see it through the eyes of our two young children; how can we make Kitchissippi the best place for our kids to live?
Working to make our community better has also driven me to help at City Hall by being a member and chairing meetings of the Environmental Stewardship Advisory Committee and by being a reserve member of the Ottawa Transit Commission. I’ve seen the inner workings of our city up close and know what it takes to get results. It takes collaboration.
I’ve seen the impacts of chaotic growth on our community. I’m a leader with a proven ability to collaborate and get results. I’m excited to get to work as your councillor to make growth work for the people who live here.
